Washington:
Indian-born Democratic congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has been re-elected to the US House of Representatives for a third consecutive term.
Krishnamoorthi, 47, born in New Delhi, easily defeated Preston Nelson of the Libertarian Party. When the latest reports came in, he had accounted for nearly 71 percent of the total votes counted.
Krishnamoorthi, whose parents are from Tamil Nadu, was first elected to the House of Representatives in 2016.
Meanwhile, Congressman Ami Bera is seeking his fifth consecutive California victory and Ro Khanna seeking his third term in the California House of Representatives.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal is seeking her third consecutive term in Washington state.
Voting in the states of California and Washington continues and the results are expected to be declared in the first hours.
Dr. Hiral Tipirneni is seeking her third consecutive attempt at Arizona’s 6th Congressional District. Sri Kulkarni of the Democratic Party was giving a tough fight to Troy Nehls of the Republican Party of the 22nd Congressional District of Texas.
Republican Manga Anantatmula lagged nearly 15 percentage points behind Democratic incumbent Gerry Connolly of Virginia’s 11th Congressional District.
