Days after the BJP-ruled states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana announced her intention to introduce legislation to deal with cases of “love jihad”, Karnataka Tourism Minister and BJP National Secretary General CT Ravi said Tuesday that a law prohibiting religious conversions for the good would be enacted in the state. of marriage. Ravi said the government will not remain silent when “jihadists strip the dignity of women” in the state.

“Following the line of the Allahabad High Court order, Karnataka will enact a law prohibiting religious conversions for the sake of marriage. We will not remain silent when jihadists strip the dignity of our sisters, ”Ravi tweeted. He said that anyone involved in any act of conversion would face severe and swift punishment.

The statement comes days after the Allahabad High Court ruled that conversion of religion for marriage purposes was illegal. The court made the comment by dismissing a request from a newly married couple in Uttar Pradesh who had approached the police to order the woman’s father not to disturb her marital life.

On Sunday, following the murder of a 20-year-old woman in Faridabad last week, Haryana Prime Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Interior Minister Anil Vij said the government was considering “legal provisions” against incidents of violence. “love jihad”.

The 20-year-old Nikita Tomar was shot and killed outside her university, allegedly by her former classmate, Tauseef, and her family told police she had a one-sided affection for her. The woman’s father has alleged that the defendant had been pressuring his daughter to marry him a few days before the murder, “asking her to convert to Islam so that they could marry, but she was not willing.”

“Unscrupulous elements are making attempts to force people to convert their religion through love of jihad. Also in the Faridabad murder case, the victim’s family alleged that the woman was being forced to change her religion … We are going to hold talks with our allies … A decision will be made accordingly, ”Vij said.

Last week, Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, said his government would propose a law to deal with “love jihad” and warned those who indulge in such activities to make amends or be prepared for their last trip.

Chori chhupe, naam chhupa kar ke jo log behen-betiyon ki izzat ke saath khilwad karte hain, unko pehle se meri chetavani: agar woh sudhre nahi toh Ram naam satya hai ki yatra nikalne waali hai (This is my warning to those who hide names and play with the honor of sisters and daughters: amend your ways or prepare for the last trip), ”he said.
