Mumbai: Bollywood lyricist Javed Akhtar filed a criminal complaint against actor Kangana Ranaut in a local court on Tuesday for allegedly making baseless and defamatory remarks against him in television interviews. Akhtar filed the complaint with the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate, seeking action against Ranaut under the relevant provisions of the IPC for defamation.

According to the complaint, Ranuat had recently made certain unsubstantiated comments about Akhtar that have damaged the reputation of the veteran poet and lyricist. He added that Ranaut dragged Akhtar’s name to refer to an existing “clique” in Bollywood following the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June.

She had also claimed that Akhtar had threatened her not to speak about her alleged relationship with actor Hrithik Roshan, she said. All of these statements made by Ranaut have gained views in the billions and thus tarnished Akhtar’s reputation, according to the complaint.
