JAIPUR: The power equation of the political parties in the Blue City remains balanced after the ruling party Congress dominated in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (North) and Bjp emerged victorious in Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (South).
In Jodhpur (North), Congress emerged as a clear winner with 53 seats in its kit, out of a total of 80 seats. BJP suffered a defeat at JMC (North) as they managed to win only 19 seats. Independents finished a distant third by winning 8 seats in JMC (north). The corporation was considered a bastion of Congress as prime minister, Ashok Gehlot his son Vaibhav Gehlot, who also opposed the Lok Shabha elections, led the municipal election campaign.
BJP managed to settle accounts with the ruling party in the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation (South) after winning seats in 43 districts. Congress in JMC (South) won 26 seats. In JMC (South) the independents also won 8 seats. The competition at the Jodhpur Municipal Corporation was tough on both sides after it was split in two. The city is the hometown of Congressional Prime Minister Ashok Gehlot. Similarly, the Minister of the Union Gajendra Singh Shekhawat Who is BJP’s workhorse in Rajasthan comes from Jodhpur. Shekhawat also defeated Vaibhav Gehlot in the Lok Shabha elections last year.
