Actor Vijay Raaz has been arrested by the police in Gondia, about 150 kilometers from Maharashtra, for outraging the modesty of his co-star. Raaz (57) has reportedly been in Gondia since October 20 along with around 50 actors and crew for the filming of the Hindi feature film Sherni in the adjoining Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh.
The team stayed in two different hotels in Gondia and used to go to Balaghat, about 40 km from Gondia, every day to shoot in forest areas. Balaghat is the gateway to Madhya Pradesh’s famous Kanha tiger reserve, which is home to around 80 tigers.
Raaz was alleged to continually harass and tease a 30-year-old co-actress who was staying at the same hotel where he was staying. The Bollywood actor repeatedly tried to abuse his co-star during the night hours for the past three days. Fed up with her behavior, the woman approached local police on Monday night and filed a formal complaint. Vidya Balan is in the lead role of Sherni and was staying at the same hotel, according to reports.
The investigator from the Ram Nagar police station in Gondia, Pramod Ghonge, reported that the police have booked the actor after receiving a formal complaint from the woman. He was booked under section 354 (A and D) of the Indian Penal Code and filed with the local court. He was later released on bail, Ghonge said.
Raaz was not available for comment.
An ANI report has quoted Atul Kulkarni, additional SP, Gondia as saying: “Actor Vijay Raaz was arrested in Gondia for allegedly sexually abusing a member of the crew. A case has been registered. “
Vijay was recently spotted on Lootcase and is currently awaiting the release of Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari. He also reportedly has a role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Gangubai Kathiawadi.
Vijay has previously been seen in the role of the father of Ranveer Singh’s character in Gully Boy. His police role in Dream Girl and the on-screen father of Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Pataakha are also popular.
