Active Covid-19 Cases in India Fall Below 5.5 Lakh; recoveries exceed active cases by 70 lakh | India News


NEW DELHI: Achieving a significant milestone in the fight against coronavirus, India’s active Covid-19 cases have fallen below 5.5 lakh and now account for only 6.55 percent of total infections as the number of recoveries exceeded 76 lakh, the Union Health Ministry said Tuesday.
The drop in active cases is complemented by an exponential increase in recoveries, he said.
The total number of recoveries has risen to 76.03,121 and exceeds active cases by 70,61,716, the ministry noted. The national Covid-19 recovery rate has increased further to 91.96%.
The ministry said new infections reported in a day have fallen below 40,000, as India recorded a daily increase of 38,310 new cases on Tuesday. The country had reported 36,470 new cases in a period of 24 hours until 8 a.m. on October 27.
With large numbers of coronavirus patients recovering every day and a sustained drop in the death rate, the ministry underlined that “India’s steady trend of recording active sickness cases continues.”
These encouraging results are the result of a collaborative, focused and effective implementation by the states and territories of the Union under the strategy of the Center of comprehensive and consistently high tests throughout the country, rapid and effective surveillance and monitoring, rapid hospitalization and effective compliance with the Standard Treatment Protocol issued by the center.
This success was also the result of the selfless service and dedication of doctors, paramedics, frontline workers and all other Covid-19 warriors in all parts of the country, the ministry said.
A total of 58,323 patients have recovered and discharged in a period of 24 hours, of which it is observed that 80 percent are concentrated in 10 states and UT. Maharashtra leads with more than 10,000 single-day recoveries, followed by Karnataka, where more than 8,000 people have recovered in one day.
The ministry said 74 percent of the new infections were from 10 states and UT. Kerala, Delhi and Maharashtra have contributed the most to the new cases with more than 4,000 cases each. West Bengal reported more than 3,000 new cases.
In addition, 490 deaths have been reported in one day. Of these, nearly 80 percent are concentrated in 10 states and UT, with Maharashtra recording the peak of 104 deaths. The Covid-19 fatality rate in India stood at 1.49 percent.
The country’s number of Covid-19 cases rose to 82,67,623 with 38,310 recent infections, while the death toll reached 1,23,097 after 490 new deaths were reported, data from the Ministry of Health updated at the latest. 8 am.
