An onion was thrown at Bihar’s chief minister, Nitish Kumar, as he addressed an election rally in the Harlakhi area of Madhubani for the third phase of the Bihar elections on Tuesday.

Kumar was talking about employing people from backward castes and tribes when someone in the crowd threw an onion at him. The onion, however, did not hit the leader.

As his security personnel lunged to catch the person in the crowd, Kumar asked them to hold back and kept repeating “Khoob phenko (keep pulling)”. “Leave it alone, don’t pay attention to these things,” Nitish Kumar tells the meeting.

He continued to attack the opposition RJD for their promise of 10 lakh of government jobs, saying that they could do nothing when they were in power for 15 years. The Bihar CM said that his government would work not only to provide government jobs, but also other means of employment.

To keep onion prices under control, on October 30 the Center reintroduced the onion stock limit – a measure to control price increases, which exceeded Rs 80 per kg in many cities, including almost Rs 100 per kg in Mumbai.

With the Bihar elections in mind, the government has acted twice to control onion prices; It relaxed import rules on October 28, followed by the reintroduction of the stock limit on Friday.

Last month, the head of JD (U) lost his cool to a mocking crowd during a rally in Saran. At the rally for party candidate Chandrika Rai, the estranged father-in-law of RJD Tej Pratap Yadav, as part of the crowd raised the slogans “Lalu zindabad”, Nitish Kumar blurted out: “Kya bol rahe ho, kya bol rahe ho, kya bol rahe ho (what are you saying, what are you saying, what are you saying) ”.” Vote nahin dena hai to mat do, lekin yahan se chale jao (If you don’t want to vote for us, that’s fine, but go, ”Nitish Kumar thundered, stopping his speech midway.
