Munger: Three days after a person was killed during a police baton attack and shooting by unidentified persons in Munger of Bihar, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday ordered the immediate removal of Munger District Magistrate Rajesh Meena, and the superintendent of police, Lipi Singh.

Furthermore, Magadh Division Commissioner Asangba Chuba Ao has ordered an investigation into the incident. The investigation must be completed within the next seven days.

In particular, the new District Magistrate and Police Superintendent will be posted in Munger today.

Meanwhile, unidentified individuals vandalized SP’s subdivision officer and SP office in Munger and set several vehicles ablaze during a protest against the death of 22-year-old Anurag Kumar in the shooting incident earlier this week.

In particular, after shocking images of the incident surfaced on social media, Twitterati had started demanding the removal of Lipi Singh.

The incident occurred at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Chowk around 11.30pm during the ‘Badi Ma Durga’ immersion procession in Munger district.

According to tradition in Munger, the idol of the goddess Durga was being carried by 32 ‘Kahars’ to the river bank when the devotees had an altercation with the police personnel.

Suddenly, the sound of a gunshot was heard. When the shooting stopped, a group of policemen arrived at the place where the devotees had kept the Durga idol for their lives and began to whip them with batons.

The police claimed that some unidentified people fired shots.

However, the incident gave the opposition new ammunition to attack the NDA government led by Nitish Kumar in Bihar. Opposition parties yesterday compared the Munger incident to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Mahagathbandhan leaders also started a #MungerNarsanhaar campaign to attack the NDA.

Congressional spokesman Pawan Khera said: “The prime minister is visiting Bihar for his election rallies. He should speak out about the heartbreaking incident and fire the government of Nitish Kumar with immediate effect.”

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav also lashed out at Nitish Kumar’s government.

Meanwhile, Chirag Paswan, the national chairman of the Lok Jan Shakti Party (LJP), pointed to Nitish Kumar and said: “The Munger incident gives the impression of General Dyer’s Jalianwala Bagh incident. CM is playing the role of General Dyer. and Munger’s SP Lipi Singh is the daughter of his closest friend. CM is directly involved in this incident. “
