Delhi’s Environment Minister Gopal Rai held a review meeting with officials from various departments on Tuesday on the complaint redress mechanism in relation to the new mobile app.
Users of the Green Delhi app will be able to upload photos and videos and submit them along with their complaints. Each complainant will receive a unique code to track the status of the complaint and the actions taken.
Departments that sent representatives to the meeting included the police, the public works department, the Delhi Development Authority, the National Highway Authority of India, the three municipal corporations, the New Delhi Municipal Council, the Department of revenue and environment department, Rai’s office said in a statement, adding that all of these departments must appoint nodal officers.
“Failure to address the issue in time will result in action against the nodal officers involved. Nodal officers are also trained to address issues. Through the Green Delhi app, people will be able to notify the government about burning waste, industrial pollution, dust, etc., by registering complaints online, ”the statement said.
Delhi struggles with high levels of pollution every winter due to factors such as stubble and garbage burning, dust, local industrial and vehicular emissions, which are exacerbated by unfavorable weather conditions. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), the environment department, the Central Pollution Control Board and the Union Ministry of Environment also operate hotlines for pollution related complaints.
