SpiceJet SeaPlane Service to Launch in India on Oct 31, Rates Start at Rs 1500 | Company news

New Delhi: National airline SpiceJet has announced its foray into SeaPlane Services in India. The launch of the SeaPlane Service coincides with the anniversary of the birth of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

The company is set to launch its SeaPlane service on the Ahmedabad-Kevadia route on October 31 with rates starting at Rs 1,500. SpiceJet will operate two daily flights on that route.

All-inclusive round-trip fares will start at Rs 1500 under the UDAN scheme and tickets will be available at www.spiceshuttle.com starting October 30. SpiceJet will use a 15-seater Twin Otter 300 aircraft for these flights.

The plane will depart Sabarmati Riverfront, Ahmedabad at 10:15 am and arrive at the Statue of Unity, Kevadia at 10:45 am. Twin Otter 300 is equipped with efficient Pratt & Whitney PT6A-27 Twin Turboprop engines.

SpiceJet has conducted seaplane tests in India since 2017 and has explored air connectivity across bodies of water such as rivers or inland waterways. The ground plane first phase tests were carried out in Nagpur and Guwahati, the amphibious second phase tests were carried out at Girgaum Chowpatty in Mumbai.

Amphibious aircraft are reliable, rugged and resilient and can take off and land from places that do not have runways or runways and bodies of water, thus reaching areas that lack other modes of transportation or adequate infrastructure. Reliable, rugged and tough, these small fixed-wing aircraft can land on bodies of water, gravel, and grass.

Seaplanes can land in bodies of water such as lakes, backwaters, and dams, which also offers easy access to numerous tourist spots.

SpiceJet has secured 18 seaplane routes under the UDAN including: Ahmedabad-Kevadia (Front of the Sabarmati River to the Statue of Unity, Sardar Sarovar), Agatti-Minicoy, Agatti-Kavaratti, among others. The new launch marks another successful beginning of SpiceJet’s last-mile connectivity via seaplane service under the UDAN scheme.

Northeast regions, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Andaman, Lakshadweep, and other coastal areas are some of the destinations being evaluated for amphibious aircraft operations.
