Hackers briefly broke into Donald Trump’s campaign website on Tuesday, just a week before Election Day, officials and reports said. “This site was seized,” read a post that appeared on donaldjtrump.com, which typically contains details of rallies and fundraising calls.

“The world has grown tired of the fake news that President Donald J. Trump spreads daily,” the message read, US media reported.

Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said the site was quickly fixed and that no confidential data was compromised. “The Trump campaign website was defaced and we are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate the source of the attack,” Murtaugh said.

Techcrunch technology website said the hack appeared to be a scam aimed at collecting Monero, a hard-to-track crypto currency.

In their message, the hackers claimed to have confidential information about Trump and his family members. They instructed people to send cryptocurrencies to one address if they wanted the information disclosed and to another to keep it secret.
