A 29-year-old television actress, Malvi Malhotra, was stabbed in the abdomen and hands by a man for allegedly rejecting her marriage proposal. Police said the defendant, Yogesh Mahipal Singh, who claimed to be a producer, attacked her with a knife in the Versova area of Andheri around 9 p.m. Monday.
Locals rushed her to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital, where she is recovering, police said. The police have registered a case of attempted murder and stalking against Singh.
Malhotra, who is from Himachal Pradesh, has worked on various television shows. He has also appeared in movies in Telugu and Hindi.
In her statement to the police, the actress said that she “received a friend request from Singh on Facebook in 2019.” She accepted it. After that, the two of them chatted often. They even met three or four times in a cafeteria, he told police.
Since then, Singh continued to insist that she marry him. After rejecting his proposal, the whistleblower began to ignore him, police said. Malhotra told police that Singh was following her. “I was in Dubai for a shooting and returned to Mumbai on Sunday. I saw him waiting under my building, but I ignored him and went to my house, ”he said in his statement.
However, at 9 p.m. on Monday, as he was driving to his residence on Fisheries Road in Versova, Andheri, the defendant arrived in his Audi. “He stopped his car next to her and insisted that I talk to him, but since she ignored him, the defendant pulled a knife from his pocket and stabbed her three times,” he said in his statement to police. The defendant then fled.
Chief Police Inspector Raghvendra Thakur from Versova Police Station said teams have been dispatched to track down the culprit.
