The next-generation i20 will maintain its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo and Toyota Glanza after its launch next month.
The i20 is one of Hyundai’s most successful nameplates, especially in the Indian market, and the Korean automaker is set to introduce a next-generation model for the premium hatch in the country soon. Ahead of its November 5 launch, Hyundai has officially begun pre-booking for the new car.

At launch, the 2020 i20 will be available in a total of four variants, namely Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). Powertrains on offer will include a 1.2-liter NA gasoline engine, a 1.0-liter turbo gasoline unit and a 1.5-liter diesel powertrain. Transmission options will include manual gearboxes, automatic IVT, 7-speed DCT, as well as the recently launched iMT (intelligent manual transmission).
The car has been built in Hyundai’s Sensuous Sportiness design language, therefore it features a much more aggressive front fascia compared to the current model on sale. It has a large cascading grille that comes with a diamond-patterned mesh finish, flanked by sharp-looking headlights with LED daytime running lights. The rear features Z-shaped wrap-around LED taillights that connect to each other with the help of an LED bar running through the tailgate.
The hatch equipment list will likely consist of a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a fully digital instrument cluster, a power sunroof, wireless charging, an 8-speaker sound system from Bose, BlueLink telematics and soon.
Hyundai will offer the i20 with a range of color options including Polar White, Typhoon Silver, Titan Gray, Fiery Red, Starry Night and Metallic Copper. Polar White and Fiery Red paint schemes will also be available with an optional black roof.
