Khushboo detained on her way to protest in Chidambaram against Thirumavalavan

The BJP women’s wing had organized a protest against Thol Thirumavalavan in Chidambaram on Tuesday against her comments about women and the Manusmriti.

Popular actress and politician Khushboo, who recently joined the BJP, was detained along with her supporters near Chennai’s Muttukadu while on their way to Chidambaram on Tuesday morning. They were scheduled to take part in a protest against Thol Thirumavalavan, Viduthalai Chief Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and a Member of Parliament (MP) from Lok Sabha for their alleged remarks against women.

The BJP women’s wing had reportedly organized a protest in Chidambaram on Tuesday to condemn Thirumavalavan’s statements about women. Khushboo, Sasikala Pushpa and several others were expected to participate in the protest. However, the police had denied permission for the protest on Monday night. On Tuesday morning, Khushboo and his supporters were heading to Chidambaram on the East Coast Road (ECR) when the police stopped their vehicles and took them into protective custody.

After being detained, Khushboo tweeted from her official name that they will not bow. “Cowards #VCK. Do not rejoice. It is your failure. Detained because they know we are a force to be reckoned with. We will not bow down. @ BJP4India @Narendra Modi Ji will take every step to ensure the respectability of every daughter of this soil. Darpoks VCK, respecting a woman is alien to you (sic), ”he tweeted.

“When your journey is forcibly interrupted, you know you are on the right track. Question @AIADMKOfficial north #CM by TN @EPSTamilNadu avl, why are we denied our democratic right to peaceful protest when other parties are given permission to do the same? Why this bias (sic) ”, he added.

Khushboo was at the forefront recently by attacking Thirumavalavan for his alleged comments on Manusmriti and his views on women. The accusation against the MP was that he spoke ill of women in a webinar organized in September. The BJP had also demanded an apology from Thirumavalavan for his comments. However, refusing to apologize, Thirumavalavan denied that he was denigrating women and emphasized that he was working for their emancipation.
