New Delhi: A woman and one other person were arrested by Mumbai police on Friday for allegedly hitting and misbehaving with a traffic police officer. The woman has claimed that police personnel had abused her.

LT Marg police arrested Sangrika Tiwari, 29, for assaulting an on-duty traffic police officer, Eknath Parte, near the Surti Hotel, Kalbadevi.

According to officials, the woman was riding in the back seat of a two-wheeler with Mohsin Shaikh, 32, both without a helmet. The traffic police stopped them and fined them.

A heated argument ensued between them and Tiwari grabbed Parte by his uniform and began assaulting him. Mohsin Shaikh, a co-defendant in the case, is seen making video of the assault. The video of the woman attacking the traffic policeman was widely shared on social media.

In the video, Sangrika Tiwari is seen slapping the traffic policeman several times and accusing him of abusing her. Other policemen intervened and saved Parte while Tiwari and Shaikh were arrested and taken to the police station.

Passersby also recorded the incident on their mobile phones, which were later broadcast on the Internet.

Meanwhile, the video was shared by Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Twitter, who demanded strict action against the defendants. The leader wrote in Marathi: “This woman must be treated immediately. It is a matter of honor for the Mumbai police. To take action.”
