MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, a woman who assaulted a traffic officer in South Bombay, claiming he abused her on the grounds of not wearing a helmet, he was arrested by the LT Marg Police on Saturday.
The video of her beating the police officer has gone viral on social media, and the traffic police immediately issued a statement stating that the woman is lying as the police officer did not abuse her.
LT Marg Police Arrested Saturday Afternoon Sadvika Ramakant Tiwari (30), resident of Masjid bunder together with Mohsin Khan from Bhendi Bazaar. The police have registered them under sections 353, 332, 504 and 506 of the IPC of preventing a government official from fulfilling his duties, causing willful harm, willful insult with the intention of causing breach of the peace and criminal intimidation.
According to the police traffic officer, Eknath Porte, attached to the Kalbadevi traffic division, was on duty at the Hotel Surti crossing in Kalbadevi when he stopped the motorcyclist Mohsin Shaikh and Sadvika Tiwari was a passenger.
Porte asked Shaikh to pay a fine because he was not wearing a helmet. This led to an intense discussion between Sadvika and Porte.
Suddenly, Sadvika caught Parte by her uniform and started assaulting him and in the video, she is heard saying that Porte abused her. Mohsin Shaikh, a co-defendant in the case, is seen making video of the assault. Porte then enlisted the help of a female police officer who intervened and took control of the situation and turned Sadvika and Shaikh over to the LT Marg police. “After hearing from both parties, we recorded an offense against Sadvika and Shaikh for mistreating a public official, although Porte claims he did not abuse her. Joint Police Commissioner (Traffic) Yashhasvi Yadav has praised Porte saying that despite that the woman assaulted him, the bailiff has maintained her dignity and did not abuse her and instead referred to the defendant as ‘ma’am’ and ‘sir.’ Yadav has also asked members of the public to respect the police and He assured that those who misbehave with the police will be dealt with serious actions.
