JAMMU: Asking ex Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Mehbooba Mufti to desist from making highly provocative and irresponsible remarks about the national flag, the unity of Congress in the Union Territory on Saturday he strongly condemned the statement of the PDP chief on the tricolor.
In reaction to Mufti’s statement on the national flag, Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congressional Committee (JKPCC) chief spokesman Ravinder Sharma said that it is very provocative and irresponsible, and has hurt people’s patriotic sentiments.
“Such statements are intolerable and unacceptable in any society,” he said.
Sharma said that the national flag is the symbol of the honor and dignity of the country and reminds people of the sacrifices of millions of Indians to achieve freedom and protect the dignity, honor and territorial integrity of the country.
“I should desist from making such scandalous statements to hurt the feelings of all Indians,” said the congressional leader.
In his first interaction with the media after his release from 14 months in detention, Mufti said on Friday that he would hold up the tricolor only when the separate flag of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir was restored.
“As far as I’m concerned, I have no interest in elections. Until the Constitution under which I used to participate in elections is returned to us, Mehbooba Mufti It has nothing to do with the elections, let me tell you that, ”he said.
In an act seen as a challenge, the former state’s flag was prominently displayed on a table in front of the PPD chair, along with her party’s flag, during the press conference. It was the first time the PDP had displayed the old state flag at a party function or in a press.
“This is my flag,” Mufti said, pointing to the old state flag, when asked by a journalist about his statement that if Article 370. of the Constitution was repealed, there will be no one left to hold the flag of India.
“When this flag of ours is restored, we will hold that (tricolor) flag as well. But we will not hold any other flag until the moment our flag, which was stolen from us, enters our warehouse,” he said.
