At his first press conference after being released from 14 months in detention, Former Prime Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and Chairman of the PDP, Mehbooba Mufti, launched a scathing attack on the BJP on Friday, saying that “the country will be governed by the Constitution and not by the BJP manifesto.”

“The people of J&K are expendable (Center), what they want is territory. This country will be governed by the constitution, not by the BJP manifesto, ”Mufti said while addressing the media from his residence in Gupkar.

Claiming that the BJP has desecrated the Constitution, Mufti promised not only to restore article 370 but also to achieve a final solution to the Kashmir issue.

Mufti addressed the media with the former J&K state flag in front of her. “My flag is this (pointing to the J&K flag on the table). When this flag returns, we will also go that flag (Tricolor). Until we get our own flag back, we won’t go any other flag … This flag forged our relationship with that flag.

“Our relationship with the flag of this country is not independent of this flag (the Jammu and Kashmir flag). When this flag reaches our hands, we will also carry that flag, ”Mufti said, according to the ANI news agency.

Mufti was released from 14 months of detention on October 13, after the J&K government revoked her detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The decision was made two days before his daughter Iltija Mufti petition challenging his detention he was scheduled to be heard in the Supreme Court.

Mufti, along with all the separatist and dominant leaders, was detained by the J&K police on August 5 last year; the day the Center abrogated Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and demoted the state to two Union Territories.

In an audio message posted on Twitter after her release, she had said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir cannot forget the “robbery and humiliation” of August 5 and demanded the release of all prisoners housed in different jails in the territory of the Union and outside it.

“Now, we all have to reiterate, we will have to recover what New Delhi took from us in an illegal, undemocratic and unconstitutional way. In addition to this, we will have to continue our fight for the resolution of the Kashmir problem for which thousands of people sacrifice their lives. I agree that this path will not be easy but I believe that our courage and our determination will help us cross this path ”, he had said in the audio message.

In his message, Mufti also said: “All this time, the black decision of the black day of August 5, 2019 hurt my soul. And I understand that the situation would have been similar for all the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “
