23-Year-Old Trans Kitchen Employee Arrested For Sangeetha Murder

Police Commissioner Sumit Saran tells TNM that a ‘personal dispute’ was the cause of the murder.

Coimbatore police arrested a 23-year-old man named Rajesh, in connection with the murder of Sangeetha, a 60-year-old trans businesswoman in the district. Police Commissioner Sumit Saran tells TNM that a ‘personal dispute’ was the cause of the murder. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Sangeetha was killed by Rajesh for allegedly rejecting his sexual advances.

Police confirm that Rajesh, who is from Nagapattinam district, was working for Sangeetha at Covai Trans Kitchen, a biryani joint that opened in RS Puram in September. He had been employed a month and a half ago, according to his research. Sangeetha and Rajesh have been involved in a personal dispute for a month since their employment, says the Commissioner.

Their disagreement boiled over Sunday and Rajesh allegedly stabbed Sangeetha in the neck before shoving her into a plastic barrel filled with water. He also added salt to the barrel to delay decomposition and avoid detection. Then he fled the area. His body was finally discovered on Wednesday and three special teams had been formed to catch the killer.

According to many reports, Rajesh allegedly sexually harassed Sangeetha and when she threatened to file a police report, he murdered her. However, the Commissioner rejected this claim.

“This was a personal dispute,” he says, without elaborating. “They were working together. And it seems that there was a dispute between the two and a third person, “he adds.

Meanwhile, the Saibaba colony police have registered a case under Sections 302 (Punishment for murder) and 201 (Causing evidence of crime to disappear) of the Indian Penal Code.

“We are still conducting interrogations with the accused and a final FIR will be based on his admissions,” says a source at the police station.
