NEW DELHI – Legendary Indian cricketer and captain of the 1983 World Cup winning team Developer Kapil suffered a scare in the heart and has suffered angioplasty in a hospital in New Delhi.
Kapil, 61, had been quite active on the social circuit and on the golf course before the pandemic hit. However, there was no news that he suffered from heart disease.
“He feels fine now. I just spoke to his wife (Romi). He was feeling uncomfortable yesterday (Thursday). He is undergoing checkups at a hospital as we speak,” said the former test player and president of the Cricketers Association of the India, Ashok Malhotra. he told PTI.
An official statement from Fortis Escorts on Okhala Road, New Delhi, said Kapil is “stable now” and could be discharged in a couple of days.
“Former Indian cricket The captain, Mr. Kapil Dev, 62, arrived at the Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (Okhla Road) emergency department at 1:00 am on October 23 with a complaint of chest pain. He was evaluated and an emergency coronary angioplasty was performed by Dr. Atul Mathur, Director of the Department of Cardiology, in the middle of the night. Currently, he is admitted to the ICU and under the close supervision of Dr. Atul Mathur and his team. Mr. Kapil Dev is stable now and is expected to be discharged in a couple of days, “the statement said.
Kapil played 131 Tests and 225 ODIs before retiring and is the only player in history to claim more than 400 wickets (434) and accumulate more than 5000 Tests races.
Kapil was included in the International Cricket Council Hall of Fame in 2010.
After news of his illness reached, the cricket fraternity wished Kapil a speedy recovery.
