Panaji:

A passenger aboard an Air India flight to Goa from Delhi generated panic, claiming that a “terrorist” was present on the plane, prompting police to arrest him upon landing, a senior official said Thursday.

The officer, attached to the Dabolim Airport Police Station, stated that the passenger, Zia Ul Haq, who was said to be mentally ill, was arrested after the flight landed.

The defendant claimed to be a “Special Cell” officer and informed passengers of the presence of a “terrorist” on board the flight to Goa, creating panic among travelers and staff on board, he said.

The man was turned over to airport police by the Central Industrial Security Force and Air India staff when the plane landed at Dabolim airport, the officer said.

Police stated that the passenger had a history of having been treated at the Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences, New Delhi.

He was medically examined at a state hospital and later admitted to the Institute of Psychology and Human Behavior near Panaji after obtaining the necessary orders from a local magistrate, they said.
