Patna:
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday that the repeal of Article 370 has granted people from other states a “license” to own property in Jammu and Kashmir.
The BJP leader made comments about it at rallies he led in Bihar’s Jamui, Tarari and Paliganj constituencies.
“Before, a person in this part of Bihar could not even think of owning property in Kashmir. Congress had put such a system in place. But Narendra Modi and Amit Shah changed all that. Article 370 has been removed and people a license to buy and own property anywhere in Kashmir, he said.
The comments come at a time when there have been strong demands to ensure that jobs and properties in Jammu and Kashmir, downgraded from one state and divided into two Union Territories, are reserved for locals.
Yogi Adityanath also commented that Pakistan could no longer think of sponsoring terrorism for fear of surgical strikes.
People from this part of the country hoping to visit Kashmir can rest easy. Anyone who casts a malevolent look at them will have a bullet pierced between their two eyes, Yogi Adityanath said, eliciting thunderous applause.
Yogi Adityanath also took photos with the leader of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, and the head of AIMIM, Asaduddin Owaisi, who have questioned the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
The people of the country are happy about the removal of Article 370. But these two leaders seem to be more interested in making Pakistan happy, he said.
Under the new domicile law, non-permanent residents who have proof of residency of at least 15 years in Jammu and Kashmir are entitled to obtain certificates of domicile in the Union Territory.
Before the cancellation of Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution, only permanent residents could buy land and apply for government jobs in Jammu and Kashmir.
