The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a tournament that has provided the platform for various cricketers to rise up and make their presence felt on the world stage. However, at the same time, there have also been some whose exploits have not translated into the main tournament. Let’s see now who are the big names of this season who have disappointed.
1. Andre Russell
The name needs no introduction when it comes to heavy hitting. Dre Russ has been a prominent player for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for the past four to five seasons and has been an impressive player, single-handedly pulling off many games for the franchise. In the latest IPL, Russell scored 510 runs with a staggering strike rate of 204.81. Much was expected of the big man this year, but so far he has been unusually quiet this season. With 91 runs in 8 innings, Russell looks like a pale shadow of himself. For the Knights, you need to fire if they want to qualify for the playoffs.
2. Glenn Maxwell
It won’t be wrong to say that KXIP’s Maxwell is having a season to forget. It was bought for a whopping 10.75 million rupees by Punjab and so far it has been pitiful with the bat. With 90 runs in 9 innings, he surely doesn’t do the type of player he is justice. It remains to be seen how long he will be a part of the KXIP playing XI.
3. Robin Uthappa
Uthappa has 4411 IPL to its name. Considering this, RR bought him for 3 million rupees at the IPL auction, but he only scored 128 runs in 8 matches. However, a glimpse of his form was visible in RR’s last match against RCB, where he was sent to open the innings and scored a quick 41 on just 22 balls. RR expects to see more of this type of blows from Uthappa in upcoming matches.
4. Kedhar Jadhav
Kedhar Jadhav is the third expensive player acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK). With the departure of Suresh Raina before the tournament began, much hope was placed on him to fill the void left by Raina. However, with 62 runs in 5 innings with a meager strike rate of 20.66, Jadhav has been a major disappointment for CSK. CSK is in last place on the point table and its middle order is completely out of place.
5. Pat Cummins
KKR sprinter Pat Cummins is another name on the list. He is titled the most expensive player of the season since KKR bought him for 15.5 million rupees at auction. In the 10 games, he only has 3 lots with an economy of 8.22, which clearly does not do justice to the amount he has been paid. The second phase of the league is on a roll, Cummins hopes to contribute more to KKR in the upcoming games.
