Successful final test of the Nag missile developed by DRDO, ready to be incorporated into the Army | India News

NEW DELHI: India successfully carried out the final test of the Nag warhead anti-tank guided missile developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on Thursday.

The test took place at 6:45 am at the Pokhran shooting ranges in Rajasthan. “India successfully conducted the final test of the DRDO-developed Nag anti-tank guided missile with a warhead today. The test was conducted at 6:45 am at the Pokhran firing ranges in Rajasthan,” said officials from the Defense Research and Development Organization. it said in a statement.

The missile system is now ready to be incorporated into the Indian Army, which has been looking for a missile system to shoot down enemy tanks and other armored vehicles.

The Nag missile system fired from a Nag Missile Carrier (NAMICA) can carry our targets at distances of 4-7 kilometers and is equipped with an advanced seeker to locate your target.

The NAG missile is a third generation anti-tank guided missile, which has superior strike capabilities that can effectively target and destroy all known enemy tanks during the day and night.

The Army needs third-generation ATGMs with an attack range of more than 2.5 km with fire and forget capabilities. You need them to equip your mechanized infantry units to carry them in your Russian BMP vehicles.

The army currently uses second-generation Milan 2T and Konkur ATGMs and has been searching for third-generation missiles, which are important in stopping the advance of enemy tanks.

The Defense Ministry in 2018 had authorized the procurement of 300 Nag and 25 NAMICA missiles for the Indian Army.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who called to make India an ‘Aatmanirbhar’, and his cabinet colleague and Defense Minister Rajnath Singh praised DRDO’s efforts to strengthen India’s defense capabilities.

Developed locally by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the Nag ATGM can be launched from both ground and air platforms.

With a range of 4-7 km, the missile is equipped with a home-developed infrared seeker and avionics, capabilities possessed by only a few nations in the world.
