Arsenal star Mesut Ozil posts heartfelt message after Premier League snub: My loyalty is unrequited

Arsenal star Mesut Ozil said he is deeply disappointed after being left out of his Premier League squad for the 2020-21 season. In a heartfelt post on social media, the World Cup winner has said that Arsenal have not reciprocated the loyalty shown to the club.

Mesut Ozil suffered a severe blow when he was left out of the Premier League squad, weeks after he was cut off from his Europa League plans. Ozil last made a competitive appearance with Arsenal before the forced hiatus due to the novel coronavirus – their 1-0 win over West Ham United on March 7.

Notably, Mesut Ozil, Arsenal’s highest paid player, had played every Premier League match with Michael Arteta before being retired once the season resumed after the break due to the pandemic.

“It is a difficult message to write to the Arsenal fans that I have played for in recent years. I am truly deeply disappointed that I am not signed up for the Premier League season at the moment,” he added. Ozil said in his post on social media.

“By signing my new contract in 2018, I pledged loyalty and fidelity to the club I love, Arsenal, and I am saddened that this was not reciprocated.

“As I just found out, loyalty is hard to come by nowadays. I’ve always tried to stay positive from week to week that there might be a chance to be part of the team again soon. That’s why I’ve kept quiet until now.

“Before the Coronavirus break, I was very happy with the development with our new coach Mikel Arteta; we have been on a positive path and I would say that my performances were of a very good level.”

London still feels like home: Ozil

Ozil said London still feels at home and will continue to train as hard as possible and fight for his place on the team. The German star said the club’s decision to leave him out of the team has not affected his plans for the near future.

“But then things changed, again, and I was no longer allowed to play football for Arsenal. What more can I say? London still feels like home, I still have a lot of good friends on this team, and I still feel a strong connection with the fans of this club.

“Whatever happens, I will continue to fight for my chance and I will not let my eighth season at Arsenal end like this. I can promise you that this difficult decision will not change my mind at all. I will continue to train to the best of my ability.” I can and whenever possible use my voice against inhumanity and for justice, “said Ozil.

Arsenal have started their new season on a shaky note, as have the other greats in the Premier League. Having won 3 and lost 2, the Gunners are in fifth place in the league table after 5 games.
