Samsung started the One UI 3.0 Android 11 public beta program a couple of weeks ago and, until now, the Galaxy S20 series has been the company’s main testing ground for the next version of UI / OS. Development continues and Samsung is now ready to release a newer beta version.
The Galaxy S20 Ultra is now receiving another One UI 3.0 public beta update, this time with the firmware version. G988BXXU5ZTJF. The package weighs in at almost 600MB and includes the latest security patch from October 2020. The change log is generic and mentions common camera and security enhancements without providing details. The good news is that tangible camera improvements really are part of this beta.
The camera is more stable with the new beta version of One UI 3.0
It is often difficult to be sure of the accuracy of Samsung changelogs because they often comprise copied and pasted generic function lists. However, we were able to test the latest beta of One UI 3.0 on the Galaxy S20 Ultra for ourselves and we can confirm that it does indeed improve the camera experience.
The original public beta of One UI 3.0 had a lot of camera-related issues. It was very slow, buggy and prone to crashing. To be clear, we didn’t get a chance to spend a lot of time with the firmware version. G988BXXU5ZTJFbut as of this writing the camera seems to be working better and we haven’t experienced a crash yet.
Watch out for ultra-wide camera wobble
The experience is not perfect yet and Samsung will have to address a few other issues before it can safely release One UI 3.0 to the general public. For example, one of the issues that we discovered with the latest beta firmware update is an excessive wobble effect that sometimes occurs when using the ultra-wide sensor. We’re not sure what exactly triggers this unwanted phenomenon, but whenever it occurs, it can render the recording useless.
The good news is that the camera experience seems to be pretty solid, except for this unusual bug. Obviously, Samsung is listening to feedback, so the next beta is likely to bring One UI 3.0 closer to the market. Stay tuned and we will keep you posted.
