Amazon delivery man arrested for duplicating customer in South Delhi, probe warrant


New Delhi: A man who works for e-commerce platform Amazon was put behind bars for allegedly misleading a customer by falsely telling him his order has been canceled and promising him a refund, police said Wednesday. The defendant, identified as Manoj (22), is a resident of Kirti Nagar in West Delhi, they said. In his police report, the author alleged that a delivery man working for Amazon had arrived at his home in Kidwai Nagar in South Delhi on 1 October to deliver a mobile phone that he had ordered from Amazon. But the delivery man informed him that his order had been canceled and that he would soon receive a refund, a senior police officer said. However, when the man verified the status of his order, he showed that the mobile phone was delivered to him. He immediately contacted Amazon’s office regarding the refund of the amount paid, but the e-commerce platform told him that based on his inquiry, the mobile phone had been delivered to him, he said.

Deputy Police Commissioner (South) Atul Kumar Thakur said: “After conducting an investigation, a case was registered under section 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing surrender of goods) of the Indian Penal Code and a equipment to catch the accused. “

A raid was carried out and the accused delivery man was arrested. The client’s mobile phone was recovered from a Dharamvir to whom the defendant had sold the mobile phone, he said.

During questioning, the defendant told police that he deliberately showed the mobile phone as delivered to the company and kept it because he needed money.

He then told the customer that the order had been canceled and assured him that his money will be refunded within a few days, the DCP said.
