Chennai-Bengaluru direct train service to resume from today


After a gap of more than six months, direct passenger train services between the southern metropolises of Chennai and Bengaluru will start from Wednesday. Train services between the two cities were suspended in March as part of the national Covid-19 shutdown.

As announced by Southern Railway on Monday, a fully booked double-decker special daily train will operate between the capital cities of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka starting October 21. The train will have eight AC chair cars, as well as two luggage and brake vans.

According to the daily schedule, the special train will depart from Dr MGR Chennai Central station at 7:25 am and arrive at KSR Bengaluru station at 1:10 pm. In the opposite direction, you will begin your tour at 2:30 p.m. and arrive at your destination at 8:30 p.m.

From Chennai to Bengaluru, the train will have the number 06075, while in the opposite direction it will have the number 06076. During the journey, it will stop at Arakkonam, Katpadi, Ambur, Vaniyambadi, Jolarpettai, Kuppam, Bangarapet, Krishnarajapuram and Bangalore Cant. an additional stop on the journey from Bengaluru to Chennai, in Perambur.

Reservations for the train opened at 8 a.m. on Tuesday.

The commencement of special daily train operations comes at a time when India is opening further away from the nationwide lockdown, with metro services across the country now operational, albeit not at full passenger capacity. Similarly, schools, movie theaters, religious places, shopping malls, etc. They have also reopened with strict Covid-19 protocols.

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are among the worst states affected by Covid-19 in the country. While Karnataka is the third most affected country with 776,901 cases, Tamil Nadu follows with 694,030 infections so far, according to the respective coronavirus control panels of the two states. The two capitals are also among the worst affected cities in India.
