HYDERABAD: IMD authorities and independent forecasting agency Skymet They have put flood-stricken Hyderabad on alert, saying the worst is yet to come and heavy rains are expected on Wednesday and Thursday.
“Heavy rains will hit many parts of Hyderabad, especially during the afternoon and evening due to a low pressure zone prevailing over central Bay of bengal which is likely to turn into a deep depression by Wednesday, ”said Naga Ratna, director in charge of IMD, Hyderabad, which has sounded an orange alert for many parts of Telangana.
IMD attributed the continued rain activity in Hyderabad to an east-west trough running through Telangana, associated with a cool low-pressure area formed due to a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal.
There was a sharp drop in the mercury level to 22 degrees Celsius in an hour due to heavy rains, thunder, and strong winds in many parts of the city. As the rain continued to hit the city, the government stepped up its rescue and relief operations in many areas.
While Telangana government officials handed out relief checks to people affected by the floods, politicians and celebrities made contributions to the Telangana Chief Minister relief fund.
