Chennai’s decision to hit first fell through when the Rajasthan Royals bowlers produced a superb effort to restrict the three-time champions to a modest 125-for-five. CSK were struggling from the start as they lacked firepower and were down to 56 for four out of 10 overs.
Ravindra Jadeja scored the leading scorer for CSK with an undefeated 35 from 30 balls and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, playing in his 200th IPL game, made a 28 run while adding 51 runs for fifth field. Jofra Archer (1/20), the spinning duo of Shreyas Gopal (1/14) and Rahul Tewatia (1/18) were inexpensive in the middle, while youngster Kartik Tyagi (1/35) was also impressive.
Dhoni and Jadeja did their best to resurrect the innings and then up the ante, but it turned out to be too little, too late. Dhoni was left out looking for a double in the 18th. Kedar Jadhav continued to struggle with the bat as the RR bowlers did not give CSK batsmen any leeway.
After the poor show of Chennai Super Kings, fans lashed out at the team’s management for playing Kedar Jadhav in match 37 against Rajasthan Royals.
