NEW DELHI: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Kamal Nath, who is under general attack for his “article” comment against the minister of state Imarti DeviHe claimed Monday that he had said nothing to insult anyone. The congressional leader’s clarification comes amid widespread criticism and protests from the state’s top BJP leaders, who sat on a two-hour silent fast today.

Addressing an electoral meeting on Sunday in the city of Dabra in Gwalior, where the BJP sent Imarti Devi, Kamal Nath had said that the candidate for Congress was a “simple person” as opposed to the opponent who was an “element”.
Imarti Devi and 21 other ALMs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia had resigned from Congress and the state assembly and joined the BJP in March, overthrowing the Kamal Nath government in the process.
Madhya Pradesh BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Jyotiraditya Scindia party deputy, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and others sat on a two-hour silent fast across the state to protest Kamal Nath’s comment.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has sought an explanation from the leader of Congress for his mockery of the “issue.”
NCW has also referred the matter to the Elections Commission for action.
“The Commission strongly condemns this irresponsible and disparaging statement made by the leader. The words used in the video are highly defamatory and show a lack of respect for the dignity of a woman,” NCW said in a statement.
“At a time when we want more women to enter politics, such disrespectful comments against a female leader, who also from a person who holds such a responsible position, is very regrettable,” he said.
Kamal Nath’s comment also triggered a war of words between Congress and the BJP.
Senior Congress Leader Digvijaya Singh called the BJP protest a “nautanki” (drama).
“I don’t know in what context Kamal Nath Ji said the word. I also don’t know the requirement behind the ‘natak’ ‘nautanki’ that BJP is doing today. No one from the Madhya Pradesh BJP said anything about the Hathras incident,” Singh said.
Union Minister Smriti Irani criticized the former prime minister, saying: “I cannot find any justification that Kamal Nath ji can give for using such a derogatory word against a political leader.”
Beating up the Gandhi family, he said, “I don’t think the Gandhi family will take action against Kamal Nath for making such a disparaging statement against a lady. Be it Kamal Nath or Digvijaya Singh, these are the people who keep the fire burning in the kitchen. of the Gandhi family. ”
Former Prime Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Chairman of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Mayawati, also lashed out at Nath and demanded an apology from the leader of Congress as well as the party’s top leadership.
