Delhi Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Monday that if all governments work hard and together make honest efforts, pollution caused by parali (agricultural waste) can be substantially reduced in a short period.
In a video posted on his official Twitter account, Kejriwal said that while he agrees with the Union’s environment minister, Prakash Javadekar, that burning or shutdown is a big problem, he disagrees with the claim that the problem cannot be solved in a short time.
“If we have the political will, the problem can be solved in a short time,” said the prime minister of Delhi.
Then he listed the measures that different state governments are taking to prevent farmers from burning paralí.
“On the recommendation of the Pusa Institute, the Delhi government began spraying chemicals that will compost this paralí. It will also be beneficial to farmers, ”said Kejriwal.
“A factory that can extract a gas similar to CNG from paralí has started operating in Karnal de Haryana. This paralí is bought from the farmers and taken to this factory for gas extraction. And farmers don’t have to pay for transportation. As they are bought, the farmers also get money. Then Indraprashta Gas Limited (IGL) buys this gas ”, he added.
Party chief Aam Aadmi (AAP) said there are seven factories in Punjab that produce coke (a form of coal) from parali which is then sold to NTPC.
“So we can see that there are many ways to turn this waste into something useful and prevent farmers from burning it that will reduce the level of pollution in the air. If we start doing this on a war footing, we can reduce pollution in a year. But the question is: Do we have the political will? Or are we interested in doing politics on the subject? “Kejriwal said.
He suggested that the Center (Ministry of the Environment) should hold monthly meetings with the main ministers of the states affected by burning or stoppage to find more solutions of this type.
When interacting with people during a Facebook Live event, Javadekar said on Sunday that the main factors behind air pollution in the country are traffic, industries, waste, dust, stubble, geography and meteorology. .
“The pollution problem cannot be solved in one day. Continued efforts are needed to address each contributing factor, ”said the minister.
