Durga Puja pandals will be no-entry zones for visitors, says Calcutta HC

As the Durga Puja festivities in West Bengal are gearing up in the wake of the new coronavirus pandemic, the Calcutta High Court on Monday ordered the state’s 34,000 Durga Puja pandalos to become “No Entry” zones for visitors. All these pandales must be barricaded to avoid large concentrations in the middle of the pandemic outbreak.

The court also ordered that list of organizer names be placed outside the pandals and only they can enter for puja-related work. In total, only 25 people will be allowed at a time, including organizers.

Among the details, the court noted that five meters beyond the ends of the small pandals and 10 meters beyond the largest pandals must be barricaded and demarcated as no-entry zones.

Meanwhile, as fears mount of a surge in the number of COVID-19 amid preparations for the Durga puja, various panda committees have already arranged for virtual ‘darshan’ this time, while banning entry. visitor physics.

However, other puja associations have argued that the festival is all about inclusion, and revelers cannot be prevented from visiting the tents. They have given assurances that all necessary steps will be taken to control crowds and ensure everyone’s safety.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee recently announced that people can start visiting the ‘Tritiya’ tents, three days before the puja rituals start, to avoid overcrowding to some extent.
