Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the National Education Policy was “a great initiative to bring about a fundamental change in the educational configuration of the country” when he addressed the centennial convocation ceremony of the University of Mysore.
Prime Minister Modi spoke about NEP 2020 in his virtual speech, saying it was an ‘important mission’ that would lead to ‘fundamental changes’ in the country’s educational configuration. “The National Education Policy is an important mission to achieve fundamental changes in the educational configuration of our country, from the preschool stage to the doctorate,” he said. “We are focusing on a multidimensional approach to make the capable youth of our country more competitive. We are trying to make them flexible and adaptable for the changing nature of jobs, ”he added.
The Prime Minister also pointed out how NEP, on the one hand, is improving the future of the education sector, while on the other it is also empowering young people. He also mentioned how, at all levels of education, the gross enrollment of girls was higher than that of boys. “Even in higher education, and in innovation and technology, the participation of girls has increased,” said PM Modi.
Prime Minister Modi also mentioned how, in the past six years, his government has created a new Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), on average. One of these new IITs, he noted, was opened in Dharwad, which, like the University of Mysore, is in Karnataka.
On the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), he said that seven new IIMs have been opened in just six years, compared to just 13 before 2014. At the Indian Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), he said that in In the last six decades there were only seven AIIMS in operation, since 2014, almost double the number – 15 – are in operation or in the process of creation.
