Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut received comment on Sunday from Union Interior Minister Amit Shah that Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari could have better chosen his words while writing to Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray about the reopening of places of worship in the state.
Speaking to a television channel, Raut also said that with Shah’s statement, Shiv Sena has put an end to the issue.
Koshyari recently wrote to Thackeray about the reopening of places of worship in the state and asked if the Shiv Sena president had “suddenly turned secular”, sparking a war of words between the governor and the prime minister.
Shah had told a news channel on Saturday that “Koshyari could have chosen his words better.” In reaction, Raut said that Shah is the country’s interior minister and speaks responsibly and cautiously.
The Raj Bhavan and the governor’s office is a constitutional institution and is under the jurisdiction of the Interior Ministry, he said.
“The governor’s letter followed by the prime minister’s response was an avoidable controversy and we have not started it. But we are satisfied with the position of the Union Minister of the Interior and we thank him for understanding the reason for our anger, ”said Raut.
With Shah’s statement, Shiv Sena has put the matter aside, the party’s chief spokesman said.
Raut dismissed speculation that Shah was being soft on Shiv Sena, a year in which he severed ties with the BJP. “There is nothing political. What Shah said was in line with the Constitution of India, ”he said.
