Schools reopen in these states starting today. Check the rules, guidelines here


Schools outside of the containment zones will reopen with strict Covid-19 regulations in effect starting today. Previously, the Ministry of the Interior (MHA) had published detailed guidelines for the reopening of schools and colleges in the country in a phased manner, starting on October 15. Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Sikkim will be seen partially reopening their schools in areas outside of buffer zones. While many states, including Delhi, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra, have decided not to reopen schools in light of the coronavirus pandemic.

Uttar Pradesh

Schools for students in classes 9-12 outside the containment zones will reopen on October 19.

Classes will take place in shifts and schools will need to follow all necessary protocols, including social distancing and proper sanitation of facilities.

Students will only be able to attend classes after providing written permission from their parents or guardians, the government said.

Schools will operate in shifts and due attention will be paid to the health of students.

Classes will be taught for standards 9 and 10 on the first shift

Classes for Standards 11 and 12 will be held on the second shift.

50 percent of students will be called in all classes one day and the remaining 50 percent the next day.

Students will sit 6 feet apart.

Directives have also been issued to continue and encourage online teaching. Priority should be given to calling the school for those students who do not have access to online instruction.

Punjab

Students in only classes 9-12 may attend schools with parental consent and without attendance being mandatory, according to a statement.

Online classes will continue to be the preferred mode of instruction and will be encouraged.

Schools that are allowed to open will be required to follow standard operating procedures, which will be issued by the Department of School Education.

Sikkim

In Sikkim, the government has decided to reopen all schools gradually from October 19. Winter break will be eliminated entirely this year, and classes will be held six days a week, with Saturday being noon. The state government has developed a new academic calendar. According to the calendar, students in classes 11 and 12 will be able to attend schools on a voluntary basis from October 19, but each of them must carry a written permission from their parents or guardian.

The Ministry of Education of the Ministry of Education of the Union issued on October 5 the guidelines for the reopening of schools after October 15 during the Unlock 5 phase. According to the guidelines, schools and training institutions can open from staggered after October 15. However, the decision to reopen educational institutions rests with the States and Territories of the Union (UT).
