Bhopal / Khandwa: A 70-year-old farmer reportedly died of a heart attack during a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh’s Khandwa district on Sunday, where BJP Rajya Sabha deputy Jyotiraditya Scindia was scheduled to speak, an official said. Congress alleged that BJP leaders continued to address the public meeting even after the farmer’s death.

“A 70-year-old farmer identified as Jiwan Singh, a resident of Chandpur village in the district, attended the public meeting in Mundi on Sunday. But his condition deteriorated and he collapsed in his chair, ”said Antim Pawar, manager of the Mundi police station. “They took him to a hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. The initial investigation revealed that he died of a heart attack, ”he said.

According to eyewitnesses, local leaders were on their way to the meeting when the farmer died. Subsequently, Scindia took the stage and upon being informed of the death, paid tribute to the deceased peasant and observed a minute of silence, they said.

However, Congressional Leader and former Union Minister Arun Yadav accused the BJP, Scindia, and Senior Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of being insensitive to farmers. “A farmer died during the BJP public meeting under the Mandhata assembly seat today and the leaders continued to make speeches. Is this the mindset and humanity of BJP? he said.

When asked, BJP leader Govind Malu mourned the farmer’s death and said so.
