Mumbai Metro services will resume starting tomorrow, October 19, with standard operating procedures (SOPs) in place. On October 14, the Maharashtra government allowed the resumption of metro services in the state from October 15. However, the Mumbai subway took a few more days to complete all security operations. Metro train services will be only half of pre-COVID levels and will operate at one-third of passenger capacity.
Here’s everything you need to know about riding the Mumbai subway starting tomorrow (October 19):
1) Trains will run from 8.30 am to 8.30 pm.
2) The use of a mask will be mandatory, maintaining social distancing, and a thermal control of passengers will be carried out at the entrance doors.
3) Children, elderly people advised not to travel by metro.
4) According to report in PTI, only 200 train services will operate with services in any direction in up to 8 minutes, compared to 5 minutes and 400 services before.
5) Unlike 1350 people per service before, now the train will carry only 360 people, news agency PTI reported.
6) Passengers are advised to use digital tickets, smart cards or tickets based on QR codes. Plastic tokens will not be issued.
7) Carry minimal luggage and avoid metallic items.
8) Leave the marked seats empty inside the train.
9) Temperatures inside the wagons will remain between 25 and 27 degrees Celsius.
10) The use of Aarogya Setu is recommended.
Meanwhile, with an increase of 61,871 new COVID-19 cases and 1,033 deaths in the past 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 count today reached 74,94,552, according to the Union Ministry of Health. Maharashtra remains the most affected state by COVID-19 in the country with 1,85,750 active cases. While 13,58,606 patients have recovered from the disease in the state, 41,965 have succumbed to it.
