NEET 2020 | Two from a government school in rural Tamil Nadu approved the first attempt

Neither S. Ramya nor P. Bistis Prisca attended any private coaching class.

Two girls who studied at the Government Higher Secondary School in Velliangadu, near Karamadai in the Coimbatore district, passed the National Entrance and Eligibility Test (NEET) on their first attempt without any special training.

S. Ramya from a programmed tribe (ST) and P. Bistis Prisca from a programmed caste (SC) scored 145 and 167 points respectively. SC / ST candidates’ scores ranged from 113 to 146.

Neither of them attended any private coaching class. “I prepared myself using only the textbooks from classes XI and XII,” said Ms Ramya, daughter of a day laborer.

He did not attend the intensive online course organized by the Department of School Education in June. “We were unable to visit our teachers’ homes due to COVID-19 [lockdown] to clarify our doubts, “he said.

“Passing this [NEET] in itself it is an achievement, ”said Ms Bistis, daughter of a tailor. He said he used the textbooks for classes XI and XII extensively for preparation. However, Ms Bistis Prisca said that she attended the intensive online course for three days for each subject: biology, physics and chemistry. They both want to become cardiologists.

M. Vasanthamani, who teaches Biology at the school, said that four students from the school wrote the NEET after completing Class XII this year. She said the students were made to answer a sample questionnaire issued by the government.

This is the first time the school’s students have passed NEET. Principal A. Bellie said the school would provide financial aid to students if their medical positions were confirmed.
