Heavy overnight rains flooded parts of Hyderabad, days after a deadly downpour left at least 50 people dead and caused billions of rupees worth of damage in Telangana. Lake Balanagar in the state capital surpassed its limits last night, causing massive flash floods in nearby areas.
Terrifying footage showed vehicles being swept away as streets plunged into water, and a massive downpour caused extensive damage to the state capital and nearby areas. This morning, videos showed people on their roofs after floodwater entered their homes.

Due to the rains, the old Kurnool road to the airport from the pvnr highway has a flow of water over the road. All public going to the airport / Bangalore or coming from the airport / Bangalore to the city are advised to use the outer ring road, “Prakash Reddy, DCP Shamshabad, tweeted.
In a minute-long clip, an automatic rickshaw and a car were seen being towed away as locals tried to prevent the vehicles from being towed away. Another dramatic image from Abdullapurmet, on the outskirts of Hyderabad, showed a car driving away on a flooded street.
Some areas of the city received more than 150mm of rain during the day, slightly less than the 190mm reported on Tuesday.
The staff of the Disaster Response Force (DRF) of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) worked continuously in the field cleaning the water ponds and floods and all possible measures were being initiated in view of the rains, Vishwajit Kampati, GHMC’s Director of Disaster Surveillance and Management, said in a tweet.
The meteorological office in Hyderabad said light to moderate showers or thunderstorms are highly likely to occur in parts of the city on Sunday; while one or two places can see intense spells.

On Thursday, the state government said that 50 people had lost their lives due to heavy rains and flash floods and early estimates showed losses of around 6 billion rupees.
Authorities have been carrying out relief operations in the areas affected by the rain, even when some towns, close to bodies of water, remained under water.
Army personnel and the National Disaster Response Force were deployed to evacuate the stranded residents.
While Telangana is the hardest hit by the floods, neighboring states Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka have also been affected.
