In an exciting encounter, Delhi Capitals (DC) beat Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets in their 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, UAE, on Saturday (October 17).
With the side led by Shreyas Iyer needing 17 runs in the last over of innings, CSK captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni left everyone surprised by asking Ravindra Jadeja to deliver the last over in place of Dwayne Bravo, who is considered as one of the best dead bowlers on the world. Jadeja was hit for three sixes by Axar Patel and Delhi Capitals won the match with a ball to spare.
After the match, Dhoni called Bravo’s poor physical condition the reason he did not ask him to deliver the final. “Bravo was not in shape. He left and did not come back. The options were Jaddu and Karn. I went with Jaddu,” said the CSK captain.
Dhoni praised Delhi Capitals starter Shikhar Dhawan, who hit superbly to score his first century in the IPL on Saturday. The CSK captain, however, criticized his fielders for dropping several receptions from Dhawan.
“Shikhar’s wicket was important but we knocked him down several times. If he keeps hitting he will keep the strike rate high. Also, the wicket played better in the second half, but we can’t take credit from Shikhar,” Dhoni added.
The CSK patron also said there was some dew on the ground in the second half, which made it easier for DC hitters to score runs.
“There was a difference between the first and the second inning. The wicket behaved a little bit better in the second, improved a little. Hitting was easier in the second inning, but we can’t take credit from Shikhar. He hit very well and It was well supported by others, “he said.
Dhawan finished his innings undefeated with 101 runs of 58 balls, which were decorated with 14 limits and six. Dhawan completed his century by picking up the single on the last installment of Sam Curran’s penultimate over. Dhawan was declared “Man of the match” for his winning shot.
