Union Interior Minister Amit Shah on Saturday expressed confidence that the BJP will form the next government in West Bengal after the Assembly elections next year, as “parivartan” (change) is inevitable.
In an exclusive interview with editor-in-chief Rahul Joshi, Shah said: “We will do our best (during the elections) and I am hopeful that there will be a ‘parivartan’ (change) in West Bengal. Under the leadership of Narendra Modi , the BJP is going to form the next government. “
When asked about the face of the party ministerial chief, Shah said: “Woh to ho bhi sakta hai, magar abhi to Bengal ki janta Trinamool Congress ko hatana chahti hai, woh mukhya baat hai (that might be possible, but people Bengal currently wants to get rid of Trinamool Congress and that’s the most important thing now) “.
On issues related to corruption in Bengal after Cyclone Amphan, Shah said: “During Cyclone Amphan, all aid (including that we sent) fell into the wrong hands. There were complaints of corruption in the Amphan aid distribution. Puri rahat ghotalo mein chali gayi (all relief turned to corruption) “.
Shah also expressed dissatisfaction with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. “They lacked taking the proper measures while managing the pandemic,” he added.
With a participation of almost 40% of the votes, the BJP won 18 of the 42 seats in the state parliament and emerged as the TMC’s main rival in last year’s Lok Sabha polls.
