French police shoot man who slit teacher’s throat

PARIS: French police shot dead on Friday a man who, minutes earlier, had killed a high school teacher by slitting his throat on the street in a suburb of Parispolice said Friday.
France’s counter-terrorism prosecutor said he was investigating the attack, which took place in Conflans Sainte-Honorine, a suburb northwest of Paris.
The alleged attacker was discovered by a police patrol while carrying a knife a short distance from the scene of the attack. Police shot and killed the suspect, according to a police spokesman.
A police source said that witnesses had heard the attacker shouting “Allah Akbar” or “God is great”. The police spokesman said the information was being verified.
Another police source also said that the victim had been beheaded in the attack, but this was not confirmed.
France has witnessed a series of violent attacks carried out by Islamist militants in recent years.
At the end of last month, a man who immigrated to France from Pakistan used a butcher knife to attack and injure two people outside the former offices of the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo.
That was the place where Islamist militants shot the magazine’s employees five years ago in retaliation for the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in the magazine.
