Defending champion Mumbai Indians edged Kolkata Knight Riders in all three departments in Abu Dhabi on Friday. New KKR captain Morgan won the toss and opted to hit first. Kolkata got off to a sorry start as they lost their top order quickly and finally Pat Cummins and Eoin Morgan were left to form a crucial partnership to help KKR post a decent 148 out of six. Rahul Chahar scooped two wickets into two balls and was by far the bowler’s choice. Chasing 149 to win, Mumbai landed a shuttlecock thanks to their patron Rohit Sharma and Quinton De Kock. Finally, when Rohit was fired, Mumbai was in the driver’s seat and had put the game out of KKR’s reach. With the victory, they retain their top spot on the points table and move one step closer to booking a playoff spot. MI wins the match by eight wickets.
