The SC asked the heads of the National Cadet Corps, NSS and Bharat Scouts and Guides to put the youth force at the disposal of Lokur to help locate the stubble burning and alert the authorities to prevent the burning of crops.
During the hearing, Attorney General Tushar Mehta said that governments have reservations about the appointment of the Lokur committee. To this, the CS said that it has not granted any extraordinary jurisdiction to the Lokur committee.
The CS added that the consent of Judge Lokur has already been taken.
The SC court, consisting of Chief Justice SA Bobde and Justices AS Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian, ordered the states concerned to provide adequate security, secretarial infrastructure and transportation to the Lokur panel.
He said the panel will submit its report on stubble burning biweekly to the higher court.
During his tenure as Supreme Court Judge, Judge Lokur had dealt with pollution issues that included the aspect of stubble burning.
The court was hearing a guilty plea filed by Aditya Dubey, who expressed concern about contamination caused by burning stubble.
