A Delhi-based man was arrested by Mumbai police on Thursday for allegedly sharing false content related to the Sushant Singh Rajput case on social media platforms.
Police said an FIR was filed against Vibhor Anand for allegedly defaming various people, including police, in connection with the Bollywood actor’s alleged suicide.
“We arrested Anand in Delhi last night. They brought him to the city and we are currently doing his medical exams, including Covid-19. After that, he will be questioned, ”said an officer from the crime section.
“He had raised various conspiracy theories about the death of Sushant Singh Rajput and also defamed various people claiming they were involved in the murder of the actor. He also criticized the investigation carried out by the Mumbai police, ”added the officer.
Incidentally, Bollywood actor Arbaaz Khan had previously filed a libel suit against Anand for dragging his name into the case.
Recently, Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh had announced that the cyber department had taken action against those who had fake accounts on social media and used bots (accounts operated by machines and not real people) to drive a particular related narrative. with the case.
The commissioner had said last week that they had identified nearly a lakh of social media accounts that were involved in defaming the Mumbai police and the Maharashtra government.
Various production houses in Bollywood have filed various defamation and witness lawsuits against news outlets so far.
