PM Modi calls for the expansion of Covid tests and sero surveys | India News


NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called for expanded Covid-19 testing and sero surveys, saying that the facility to get tested regularly and quickly at low cost should be available to everyone as soon as possible.
The Prime Minister also reiterated the country’s determination to provide cost-effective, readily available, and scalable solutions for Covid-19 testing, vaccination, and medication for all.
Prime Minister Modi chaired a meeting to review research and the vaccine implementation ecosystem to combat Covid-19 and underscored the need for ongoing and rigorous scientific testing and validation of traditional medicine treatments.
He appreciated the efforts of the AYUSH ministry to conduct evidence-based research and provide reliable solutions at this difficult time, an official statement said.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, NITI Aayog (Health) Fellow, Senior Scientific Advisor, senior scientists and other officials, Prime Minister Modi called for continued surveillance and a high preparedness against the pandemic.
Modi also appreciated the efforts made by Indian vaccine developers and manufacturers to meet the Covid-19 challenge and pledged to continue to facilitate and support the government for all of those efforts.
The Prime Minister said that regulatory reform is a dynamic process and that the regulator should proactively utilize experts in all current and emerging domains, as many new approaches have emerged.
He also took stock of the comprehensive mechanism for the distribution and delivery of vaccines of the Ministry of Health, including the mechanisms for proper procurement and technologies for bulk storage, filling of vials for distribution, and ensuring effective delivery.
