Hyderabad: Relief operations were carried out in Hyderabad and elsewhere in Telangana on Thursday in the wake of heavy rains that caused flooding of low-lying areas, property damage and also standing agricultural crops.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will meet with ministers and officials Thursday afternoon on rain relief measures.
Chief Secretary of State Somesh Kumar told PTI that relief teams were working Thursday to pump water from towns where water stagnation was reported, to help citizens there and restore normal traffic.
He said there were 61 help centers in operation and more were being added where needed.
About 1.5 lakh of food packages were supplied and Annapurna’s subsidized food canteens in the city were used in areas where water stagnated, he said.
The relief camps would continue for a couple of days, he added.
The rain was unprecedented in and around the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and that government machinery was successful in containing human loss and loss of property, he said.
An official statement said that the Chief Minister has instructed officials to attend the meeting called by him with details on the losses suffered in their respective departments.
The meeting will discuss the rehabilitation measures taken, the additional measures that will be taken and the issues that will be mentioned in a report to be presented to the Center, according to the statement.
State Minister for Women’s and Children’s Welfare Satyavati Rathod held a meeting with officials on rain relief measures in Warangal, official sources said.
