Tanishq’s parent company, Titan Company Limited (Titan) was founded as a joint venture between the TATA Group and the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) in 1984. Of the company’s 53% promoter stake, TIDCO has a 28% stake. , while Tata Group has 25 percent. This makes the Tamil Nadu government company a major shareholder in the company. Foreign institutional investors, mutual fund schemes, and the public make up the rest of the company’s shareholders.
The dispute began when jewelry brand Tanishq released an ad showing an interfaith marriage, which showed a Muslim family preparing for a Hindu ritual of the baby shower of their pregnant daughter-in-law, who is shown as Hindu. The ad was later pulled after right-wing groups took to Twitter calling for a boycott, claiming it was promoting ‘love jihad’, a popular conspiracy theory put forward by Hindu ideologues that suggests Muslim men deliberately marry Hindu women. to become. they to Islam.
Several users had expressed their support for Tanishq and regretted that the group had chosen to withdraw the ad. Tanishq issued an official statement that it withdrew the ad in light of the hurt feelings and well-being of its employees, partners and store staff. Reports later emerged that a Tanishq jewelry showroom in Gujarat had put a note on its door, apologizing to Hindus in the district for the advertisement.
So Hindutva fans have called for a boycott of@TanishqJoyeriafor highlighting Hindu-Muslim unity through this beautiful advertisement. If the Hindu-Muslim “ekatvam” bothers you so much, why don’t you boycott the world’s longest-surviving symbol of Hindu-Muslim unity: India? pic.twitter.com/cV0LpWzjda
