Heavy rains that hit Hyderabad on Tuesday plunged many parts of the city into darkness, and power supplies have yet to be restored in several areas even after 48 hours. Several residents took to Twitter Thursday morning to complain about the lack of response from ground officials.
Following unprecedented rains that caused low-lying areas to flood, death and serious damage, a two-day holiday was declared for all government offices, private institutions, including banks and financial institutions, across the state for Wednesday and Thursday. In a tweet, reporting on the holidays, Senior Municipal Administration Secretary Arvind Kumar asked people to stay indoors and not venture outside unless it was an emergency and to work from home.

However, people also complained about the lack of broadband internet connectivity. Officials cited uprooted trees and utility poles, fallen branches and waterlogging.
The official Twitter handle for Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (@TsspdclCorporat) was inundated with tweets recording complaints and a lack of response on the ground. Many pointed out that the rains have subsided and questioned the delay in restoring power.

During a review meeting on the energy situation in the state after the incessant rains and floods, TS Genco and Transco CMD Devulapalli Prabhakar told Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao that a large number of transformers were washed away by the heavy rains.
“In several places, the poles were torn or bent and the power transmission cables were broken. The intensity of the rains and floods has not yet abated. Employees cannot reach flooded areas. The power outage was made necessary when rainwater flooded the basements of apartments in Hyderabad and other cities. The power supply was interrupted to avoid accidents and as a precautionary measure. The power supply resets depending on the prevailing situation. Employees and staff are coming to the places where they can and are doing restoration work, ”Prabhakar was quoted in a CMO statement, as he explained to CM. Rao ordered the electrical employees to continue their spirit of hard work through adversity until normalcy was restored.
@KTRTRS @KTRTRS Good morning Mr. KTR, I am from the Towlichowki neighborhood of Brindavan. We have been out of power for the last 36 hours, and we have been following up with the department in various ways and no one is responding. Ask them to help us solve our problem, 🙏
